Soulstice

A 16 track jungle / drum 'n' bass album (1h 34m 6s) — released December 1st 2008 on MUMS THE WORD

Close your eyes and imagine yourself sitting on a beach looking over the Pacific Ocean. The soundtrack to your thoughts is highly likely to be a band called Shapeshifter, heralded as a musical phenomenon for their ground breaking live shows and unique blend of heavy soul/drum and bass. Their reputation as pioneers of modern music was built by a unique approach to electronic music which had previously been restricted to computer based studio musicians and has earned them widespread critical and commercial acclaim in their motherland of New Zealand and across Australia. Based in Christchurch, this six piece have over the last five years re-written the rule book for dance acts down under, releasing three consecutive #1 independent albums on their own label TrueTone Recordings, headlining every major festival across their region and officially becoming New Zealand's biggest grossing and most successful touring act of all time! Their platinum status has seen them collaborate with Fat Freddy's Drop and the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra, support rock act Tool on tour and scoop no less than three awards at the NZ BNET Music Awards for Best Album, Song Of The Year and Best Live Act. Following on from their 'Real Time', 'Riddim Wise' and 'Shapeshifter Live' LP's, 'Soulstice' is their most recent record, which obtained platinum sales status in New Zealand in three weeks and features vocals from some of New Zealand's top artists. This is Shapeshifter's first UK release. Produced in their studio over-looking the beach, the album takes in influences from the worlds of soul, reggae, funk, rock and of course drum and bass, all rounded off with a superb sonic quality, unique to this band. Having toured the album over the last year down under, Shapeshifter finally made it to our 'cold' European shores in May this year, rocking venues in Paris, Rotterdam, Amsterdam, Barcelona, Bristol, Brighton, Edinburgh and finished with a wonderful sold out show at London's Shepherd's Bush Empire. The Tour also promoted their single 'One' (released in May08 on Nu:Tone's Brand Nu label). Off the back of the successful tour and critically acclaimed single, the decision was made to release 'Soulstice' in the UK and Europe. 'Soulstice' is released December 1st on Mum's The Word Records and will feature special re-designed packaging that includes new artwork plus exclusive remixes from drum and bass don's D-Bridge (Exit Records), Hospital's soulful star Nu:Tone, NZ's superb d&b duo The Upbeats and the prolific remix kings The Nextmen. Expect them back to tour the UK and Europe in 2009.
